Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to cease finger-pointing in the aftermath of the party’s electoral defeat in the December 7 elections. Speaking at a party meeting held in Accra, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of unity and constructive dialogue as the party begins its journey of rebuilding and strategizing for the future.
“This is not the time for blame games,” Dr. Bawumia said. “We must take collective responsibility for our shortcomings and focus on understanding the needs of the people we serve. Only through unity can we come back stronger.”
A Call for Reflection
Dr. Bawumia urged party members to engage in honest introspection to identify the root causes of their electoral loss. He highlighted the importance of listening to the concerns of Ghanaians and addressing issues such as unemployment, economic challenges, and governance lapses that may have contributed to voter dissatisfaction.
“The Ghanaian people have spoken, and it is our duty to listen and learn,” he said. “This is an opportunity to reflect on our policies and approach, ensuring that we align with the aspirations of the citizens.”
Avoiding Divisiveness
The Vice President also warned against internal divisions, which he noted could weaken the party further. He called on party leaders and supporters to avoid the temptation of apportioning blame and instead channel their energy toward rebuilding trust and confidence among members and the electorate.
“Divisiveness will only set us back,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “Let us remember that we are stronger together. The NPP has faced challenges before and emerged resilient. This time will be no different if we remain united.”
Charting a New Path
As part of the rebuilding process, Dr. Bawumia proposed the establishment of a committee to analyze the election results and recommend actionable steps for the party’s future. He also called for more grassroots engagement and the strengthening of the party’s internal structures.
“We must go back to the drawing board with a focus on innovation and inclusivity. The voices of our grassroots supporters are critical to shaping the party’s next chapter,” he said.
Hope for the Future
Despite the setback, Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism about the NPP’s prospects, citing the party’s history of overcoming challenges and its enduring commitment to national development.
“This is not the end for the NPP. It is a moment to regroup, re-strategize, and renew our commitment to serving the people of Ghana. The future is bright if we work together with purpose and determination,” he concluded.
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks have been widely welcomed by party faithful, who view his message as a rallying call for unity and progress as the NPP seeks to rebuild its political fortunes.
