Tamale Metro invests GH¢1.4m in School furniture to address deficit

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has invested GH¢1.4 million—representing 10% of its 2025 District Assemblies Common Fund allocation—to procure school furniture aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions in basic schools across the metropolis.

At a handing-over ceremony, the Mayor of Tamale, Abu Takoro, announced the distribution of 1,170 dual desks to 29 schools as part of a phased intervention to address the area’s furniture shortage. The initiative will cover primary schools first, followed by JHS and SHS students, before extending to kindergartens.

Meanwhile, the Tamale Metropolitan Director of Education, Nelson Konlanm, revealed that schools in the metropolis face an estimated 90% furniture deficit, a situation he says is negatively affecting effective teaching and learning. He expressed optimism that the Assembly’s intervention will help reduce the gap and improve educational outcomes.
