Russian university awards honorary doctorate to Tanzanian President Samia

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been awarded an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) by RUDN University in recognition of her leadership, diplomatic engagement, and contributions to social development. The honour was conferred during her state visit to Russia, where she held talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, trade, and economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to the university, the award acknowledges President Samia’s efforts to enhance Tanzania’s international standing, advance education reforms, and promote economic diplomacy and international cooperation. Speaking after receiving the honour, she described it as a recognition not only of her leadership but also of Tanzania’s collective commitment to progress, education, and development.

The recognition also highlights growing collaboration between Tanzania and international academic institutions, particularly in higher education, research, and social development. President Samia said Tanzania would continue to strengthen partnerships in education, research, and technology to equip young people with skills needed for the global economy.
