There was a time when my future depended on a woman who never had a job

There was a time when my future depended on a woman who never had a job

My mother became a single mom years ago, yet she refused to let that define our family. She farmed. She started small businesses. She made sacrifices I only fully understand now. Somehow, she managed to send me to boarding school, put food on the table for a family of four and eventually send me to university.

Today, I graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Communication. I am not just celebrating a degree. I am celebrating a mother’s resilience.

I am the first graduate in my family. The first to wear a graduation gown. The first proof that every sacrifice, every early morning, every difficult season was not in vain.

To my mother: this achievement belongs to you as much as it belongs to me.

And to anyone whose dreams seem bigger than their circumstances, keep going. Sometimes the greatest success stories begin where the odds are against you.
