The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) is moving forward with plans to establish a new campus in Kenyasi in the Ahafo Region after receiving approval from the Ministry of Education. The university delegation led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Richard Kwasi Amankwah recently met with traditional authorities and government officials to discuss the project and assess preparations for its implementation.
The proposed campus already has key infrastructure, including a four-storey lecture block, laboratories, office facilities, hostels, and a library under construction. Stakeholders, including the Ahafo Regional Minister and the Kenyasi Traditional Council, have pledged support to ensure the campus becomes operational.
According to UMaT, the university plans to begin with certificate programmes before expanding into full academic operations. The new campus is expected to increase access to tertiary education, particularly in mining-related disciplines, while creating educational and economic opportunities for residents of Kenyasi and the wider Ahafo Region.
