A final-year student of Mfantsipim Senior High School in Cape Coast has died in what police say is a suspected suicide.

The 17-year-old student was reportedly found in an uncompleted building at Ola North, a suburb of Cape Coast, after a report was made to the police by a carpenter working at the site.

According to the Central Regional Police Command, officers proceeded to the scene on June 11, 2026, where they discovered the student’s body. Items retrieved from the scene included a black backpack containing examination materials, mobile phones, and other personal belongings.

Authorities at Mfantsipim Senior High School later confirmed that the deceased was a final-year student of the school.

The student’s parents were subsequently informed, while the body was released to the family after examination by a pathologist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

Police say preliminary investigations point to suicide, although the circumstances leading to the incident have not yet been established.

The incident has left the school community and the student’s family in mourning, while police investigations continue.
